India's Solar Future Takes Shape as Reliance Partners with SECI
Reliance Power Limited, through its subsidiary Reliance NU Suntech Private Limited, has signed a significant 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This agreement is a major step in India's shift to clean energy and represents one of the largest long-term power arrangements in the country.
Reliance NU Suntech plans to develop Asia’s biggest single-location integrated solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the next 24 months, with a capital investment of up to ₹10,000 crore. This project supports India’s renewable energy goals and enhances Reliance Power's position in the green energy sector.
The PPA covers the supply of 930 MW of solar power with a 465 MW/1,860 MWh BESS system at a fixed rate of ₹3. 53 per kWh. To achieve this capacity, over 1,700 MWp of solar generation will be utilized. In December 2024, Reliance NU Suntech won the largest award in SECI’s auction for 930 MW capacity, emphasizing its commitment to large-scale clean energy projects. The company also submitted a Performance Bank Guarantee of ₹378 crore to SECI, with the entire bidding process completed in under five months, showcasing its operational efficiency and leadership in India’s energy transition.
