Godrej Agrovet launches Argo Rid, a fish lice controller in collaboration with ICAR-CIFE

Godrej Agrovet Limited has launched Argo Rid, a fish lice controller developed with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE). This product not only heals lesions caused by parasitic attachment on fish but also boosts their immune systems, helping aqua farmers improve fish health. Argulus infections impact about 48% of Indian aquaculture ponds, causing annual losses of around USD 62. 5 million. Argo Rid is designed to be user-friendly and can be easily integrated into existing feeding practices for both small and large fish farmers.

Balram Singh Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing research-based solutions that improve efficiency and support farming families sustainably. He expressed confidence that partnerships like the one with ICAR-CIFE will drive significant progress in the aquaculture industry and enhance India's global fisheries standing.

Dr. Mohammad Aklakur from ICAR-CIFE highlighted that Argo Rid represents a major scientific advancement, demonstrating that nutraceuticals can effectively treat fish lice infestations. The product not only removes lice but also improves fish immunity, promotes healing, and enhances overall health.

Dhrubajyoti Banerjee, CEO of Godrej Agrovet’s Aquafeed Business, noted that India is the third-largest fish producer, contributing significantly to global production. The inland aquaculture sector has grown remarkably, yet there is still potential for increased productivity. Argo Rid is seen as an innovative solution that could strengthen India's aquaculture, improve fish survival rates, and provide long-term economic benefits for farmers.

For use, Argo Rid should be mixed with feed at a dosage of 3 kg per 100 kg. Administer it over an initial two-day period, then on the seventh day, and two more times at 15-day intervals if needed. Feeding should ideally take place on clear, sunny days to maximize effectiveness. Godrej Agrovet aims to create a supportive ecosystem to enhance scientific fish farming and address challenges in productivity.
