Celebrating Excellence: Shree Cement's Award-Winning Journey
Shree Cement, a leading cement company in India, has received the CII Performance Excellence Awards 2024 for its innovative work in renewable energy at its Solar, Wind, and Hybrid Plants. This recognition was given at the Green Power Conference in Chennai, where Shree Cement was honored for three key projects: a 20 MWp Solar Plant in Beawar, Rajasthan; a 31. 5 MW Wind Plant in Kushtagi, Karnataka; and a 10. 5 MW Wind Plant in Jath, Maharashtra. These projects highlight the company's dedication to sustainable energy and innovation.
Neeraj Akhoury, the Managing Director, expressed pride in the achievement, stating that the awards reflect the company's commitment to integrating sustainability into its operations. He emphasized the importance of renewable energy moving forward, as it contributes to building a better future. The awards were presented by notable figures, including government officials and leaders from the renewable energy sector.
Shree Cement has a power portfolio of over 1 GW, with 517 MW derived from green energy sources. In the fiscal year 2023-24, 55. 9% of its electricity needs came from renewable sources, which included the key solar and wind projects previously mentioned, reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 98,000 tons annually. The renewable energy supply significantly powers several of the company’s operational units.
The company is actively implementing strategies to lessen its environmental impact, with 51% of its electricity from green sources. Additionally, its water positivity ratio exceeded seven times in FY 23-24, thanks to water conservation and rainwater harvesting efforts. Measures such as using Air Cooled Condensers have significantly decreased water use for cooling, and treated sewage water is being used for industrial use and greenbelt development.
Shree Cement's renewable energy projects and innovative practices underline its commitment to sustainability. As it aims to expand production to 80 million tonnes by 2028, the company remains focused on fostering a cleaner and greener environment.
