Orientation on anti-human trafficking at Thiruthangal Nadar College

An Orientation on anti-human trafficking for college students in Chennai by ICWO/HSF India was held on June 28, 2023, at Thiruthangal Nadar College, Kaviarasu Kannadhasan Nagar,Selaivayal, Chennai. Dr. V. Devi, Principal, Thiruthangal Nadar College, in her welcome address, highlighted the meaning and importance of raising awareness about child abuse and human trafficking among the students. The teacher further advised the students to be alert and aware of their surroundings. 

Explaining the purpose of the orientation, Mr. A.J. Hariharan, Secretary ICWO, said that this is the first college to launch AHTC. He encouraged the students to do good work for society. He also stated that the AHTC in the college was started under the guidance of Ms. K. Saradha Devi, HOD-Department of Social Work, Thiruthangal Nadar College. Mr.Hariharan explained and made the students understand the seriousness of human trafficking and spread awareness that it can be stopped. Also, the 1098 child protection helpline is active once it receives a call about children begging on the roads. Just a call to 1098 is sufficient, and the rescue will be done once we receive the call. Expert Speaker, Mr. A. Bakthavatchalam, Member, Child Welfare Committee, Central and South Chennai the Executive Director of ARM spoke on the topic Role of NGO in Anti-Human Trafficking.
