Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India in association with Tamil Nadu State Police kicks-off road safety awareness drive in Chennai

Continuing its efforts to foster safe riding habits, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) in association with Tamil Nadu State Police  kicked-off road safety awareness drive at Tamil Nadu Police Academy located at Kelambakkam High Road Vandalur (Oonamanchery) in Chennai.

In order to ensure the safety of police forces who selflessly dedicate their lives in protecting the citizens, the Tamil Nadu State Police has given responsibility to HMSI to initiate a road safety awareness programme for newly recruited sub-inspectors of the state. Beginning from 28 April 2022, the 9-days awareness drive on how to be safe on roads will sensitize nearly 1000 newly recruited sub-inspectors of Tamil Nadu.

The awareness drive was kicked-off in the august presence of Dr. A. Amalraj (Indian Police Service Officer & Assistant Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu) and Sh. Prabhu Nagaraj (Operating Officer - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India) and other dignitaries from Tamil Nadu Police and HMSI.

Elaborating on spreading road safety awareness Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj, Operating Officer - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “HMSI salutes the Tamil Nadu Police who is working rigorously to protect the citizens. With this road safety awareness drive, HMSI expresses its gratitude to them and wants to ensure their safety on roads by educating them on important aspects of road safety. We thank Tamil Nadu Police for extending their support to us in educating the new sub-instructors to not only be responsible road users but also help in enforcement. Moving forward, we will continue to expand our road safety initiatives for creating more responsible road users.”

HMSI’s 3.5-hours training program will educate the participants through the theory session on road rules & regulations, road signs & markings, driver’s duties on road, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes. This will be followed by training on Honda’s virtual riding simulator to experience nearly 100 possible dangers on road before actual riding.

Further, to improve the risk prediction ability of riders on roads, participants will be provided special danger prediction training known as Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT) which helps in enhancing rider/driver’s sensitivity to danger and ensures safe driving action on roads. To provide participants a holistic understanding of road safety, the participants will then implement the learnings through practical training on a Honda two-wheeler.

For Honda globally, road safety comes first. As announced in April 2021, “Honda will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles globally by 2050”. Fulfilling its corporate social responsibility (CSR), HMSI has been promoting road safety in India since its start in 2001. Working towards the realisation of Honda’s global safety vision, today HMSI’s road safety awareness initiative has already spread to over 45 lac Indians. Its team of skilled safety instructors conduct daily programmes at its 10 adopted traffic parks across India and 7 Safety Driving Education Centres (SDEC).

Not only this, all 1000+ dealerships of HMSI across India spread road safety awareness. HMSI’s proprietary virtual riding simulator increases the risk-prediction ability of riders; while new customers too are given predelivery safety advise (PDSA) before they start riding at every dealership across India.

Additionally, ensuring that learning doesn’t stop in the New Normal, HMSI started the digital road safety education initiative - Honda Road Safety E-Gurukul. Since its start in May’20, this initiative has sensitized 7 Lac+ Indians on importance of being aware & responsible road users.
