Anglo-Indian Suburban Front meeting in Perambur discussing community issues and seat restoration

The Anglo-Indian Suburban Front held a significant press conference in Perambur on October 31, 2026. During this meeting, Dr. A. Roy Rozario, Founder and President of the Anglo-Indian Suburban Front, addressed several pressing issues faced by the Anglo-Indian community. One key concern highlighted was the urgent need for the restoration of a reserved seat for Anglo-Indian students in government engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. This provision, which had existed until it was discontinued in 2002 due to a Supreme Court decision stemming from a writ petition, currently remains available to students in other southern states including Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.

Dr. Rozario also discussed the classification of the Anglo-Indian community under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category in Tamil Nadu, emphasizing that this was a step similar to what Kerala adopted in 1993. This classification is supported by the findings of the September 2013 Fact-Finding Report from the Union Ministry of Minorities in New Delhi.

In addition to these issues, Dr. Rozario addressed the restoration of reservation for the nomination of Anglo-Indians to Parliament and State Assemblies under Article 334(b) of the Indian Constitution. This practice was discontinued as of January 26, 2020, following an erroneous count of merely 296 Anglo-Indians in the 2011 Census under the designation of "Anglo-Indian Religion," which overlooked the 400,000 Anglo-Indians correctly categorized as "Christian." He also mentioned the case of Miss Grizelda Evangeline from Trichy, who requires a Cochlear Kanso 3 speech processor costing Rs. 800,000, her petition for assistance pending in the Chief Minister's office.

Most critically, Dr. Rozario expressed the difficulty in securing an appointment with C. Joseph Vijay, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, despite submitting multiple representations over the past five months.
