Live streaming of the UN General Assembly on November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage

On September 4, 2026, Kambar Colony Park in Anna Nagar, Chennai, served as the venue for a historic live streaming event featuring the United Nations General Assembly's proceedings on the designation of November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early, and Forced Marriage.

Approximately 150 residents gathered at the park to witness this pivotal moment in the global fight against child marriage, marking a significant international commitment to enhance awareness, prevention, and action against this pressing issue.

The transition from grassroots efforts to a broader global movement has been bolstered by the tireless advocacy of Just Rights for Children (JRC), led by Mr. Bhuwan Ribhu, in collaboration with various NGO partners throughout India. This global recognition stands as a crucial milestone in their collective struggle for change.

The live UN proceedings were broadcast directly to Kambar Colony, allowing residents to participate in and celebrate this historic development. The event was organized by the ICWO Tamil Nadu and Kambar Colony Welfare Association, fostering community involvement.

Many young residents took an active role in the program, which featured awareness banners and charts. The gathering concluded with an oath-taking ceremony aimed at reinforcing the community’s commitment to eradicating child marriage.

As a partner agency of JRC in Chennai, ICWO urged parents, youth, community leaders, and all stakeholders to unite in the endeavor to build a Child Marriage-Free India and ultimately a Child Marriage-Free World.
