Brownie Cakes, Chocolates, & Regional Favourites Defined Chennai’s Mother’s Day Gifting Cart

This Mother’s Day, Chennai’s gifting choices leaned strongly towards familiar, comfortdriven treats and regional staples. Brownie cakes emerged as the city’s top gifting pick, alongside a steady preference for classic chocolates and local favourites. Together, these choices reflected Chennai’s inclination towards warm, dependable flavours, with the overall gifting mood centred on intimate, at home celebrations built around nostalgia and trusted, celebratory staples.

Instamart’s Mother’s Day Gifting Trends 2026 shows gifting is moving from simple gifting to more thoughtful, care-first choices. And yet, some rituals remain unchanged: flowers peaked early in the morning, cakes in the evening, and the 8–9 PM window emerged as the busiest gifting hour. The sweet spot for big gifting was around 5,500, where most of the week's highest-value carts clustered.

What India Gifted This Mother’s Day

Chocolates and flowers continued to be the universal gifting language, featuring among the top choices across every major city

But this year, India also said, “Mom, please rest.” Massagers had a moment, jumping +136%

Self-care officially made the Mother’s Day list. Beauty gift packs rose +77%, especially in bigger cities, as skincare and grooming joined chocolates and flowers as go-to picks.

Premium perfumes shot up +134%, signalling that consumers are choosing better, more considered gifts

Home ambience quietly emerged as a growing theme. Candles, diffusers, and décor pushed gifting up +34%, especially in places like Kolkata and Jaipur

While flowers remained a staple, bouquets nearly doubled (+97%), as people moved from quick picks to more thoughtful, put-together arrangements.

Chocolates, Cakes & The Great Indian Sweet Spot

Chocolates featured in 15 of the top 20 most-ordered gifting items, making them the go-to last-minute pick

Cakes followed closely, with ice cream cakes rising +69%, peaking around 7 PM, perfectly timed for evening celebrations at home.

What Each City Put in the Cart

Bangalore led the charts as India’s Mother’s Day gifting capital, followed by Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi. But the momentum extended well beyond metros. Cities like Nagpur, Patna, Lucknow, and Kolkata are signalling how quick commerce gifting is becoming a nationwide habit. While trends were broadly similar, local preferences added flavour:

Chocolates were the common love language, ranking among the top two gifts in every city

Mumbai and Pune leaned into fresh mawa cakes alongside chocolates

Chennai and Kochi favoured brownie cakes and regional staples

Kolkata showed the strongest preference for chocolates

Delhi and Gurgaon opted for classic sponge cakes paired with chocolate favourites
