Malabar Gold & Diamonds announces scholarships for 5,280 girls in Tamil Nadu as part of ₹200 crore CSR projects
Malabar Gold & Diamonds, the world's fifth-largest retail jewellery group and a responsible jeweller, will implement various projects in Tamil Nadu as part of its ₹200 crore CSR initiatives for the financial year 2026–27. As a first step, educational scholarships have been announced for 5,280 girls in Tamil Nadu this year.

Goyal, announced the ₹200 crore CSR initiatives of Malabar Gold & Diamonds
at a function held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi. As part
of this, educational scholarships are being provided to 33,000 girls at the
national level this year, of which 5,280 have been allocated to Tamil Nadu. In
addition, various projects will be implemented in Tamil Nadu during FY 2026–27
in the areas of women empowerment, healthcare, education, and environmental
protection.
Malabar Group Chairman M. P. Ahammad said that
Malabar Gold & Diamonds aims to create sustainable and long-term change in
society through large-scale investments in CSR initiatives. “₹200 crore has
been set aside for this financial year, with a significant portion allocated to
Tamil Nadu. National development can only be achieved by nurturing talent
through education and effectively utilizing human resources. Malabar Gold &
Diamonds’ scholarship programme will enable students to access quality
education and contribute to the country’s progress,” he said.
Malabar Gold & Diamonds operates 35 showrooms
in Tamil Nadu, through which various CSR initiatives are being implemented. To
date, ₹32.47 crore has been spent in the state. Educational scholarships worth
₹20.61 crore have been provided to 30,267 girls in Tamil Nadu. Under the
‘Hunger Free World’ project, food is distributed daily to more than 6,000
people. Additionally, 53 micro-learning centres have been established to
educate and rehabilitate street children. More than 12,000 underprivileged
individuals have received medical assistance, and over 25 families have been
supported with housing.
CSR initiatives worth ₹200 crore will be
implemented across more than 3,000 locations in 19 states during FY 2026–27,
covering 15 major projects and benefiting over two lakh people. Of this, ₹114
crore will be allocated to education initiatives, including micro-learning
centres and national scholarship programmes for girls. ₹30 crore will be spent
on food distribution under the ‘Hunger Free World’ project, and ₹14.2 crore
will be allocated to healthcare.
Additionally, ₹25 crore has been earmarked for
housing projects, including the ‘Grandma Home’ initiative for destitute
mothers, ₹6.8 crore for other humanitarian activities, and ₹10 crore for
environmental protection. The number of micro-learning centres will be
increased from 1,543 to 2,500 this year, with student enrolment expected to
grow from over 64,000 to one lakh.
As part of the Malabar Group’s 33rd anniversary,
scholarships will be awarded this year to 33,000 girls from 284 districts
across 18 states. Since its inception, the programme has benefited over
1,15,000 girls. The ‘Hunger Free World’ initiative provides nutritious meals
daily to 1,15,000 people across India, Zambia, and Ethiopia. Malabar-Thanal
Pharmacies, which offer medicines at subsidized rates, are also part of the CSR
initiatives.
Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ operations are
guided by ESG principles. Since its inception, the company has allocated 5% of
its net trading profit towards CSR initiatives. These programmes are
implemented in partnership with various voluntary organisations, including
Pratham and Thanal. Collectively, these efforts have positively impacted the
lives of over 1.8 million people across India.
