Godrej Properties launches Godrej SAHYOG, a mental health initiative for construction workers
Godrej Properties Ltd. (GPL), one of India’s leading real estate developers, has announced the launch of a new labour Initiative, Godrej SAHYOG, a structured mental health and well-being programme aimed at supporting construction workers across its project sites.
Following a six-month
pilot conducted across six construction sites in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region,
where over 2,000 workers were engaged through structured psycho-education, the
initiative will now be rolled out across 79 identified construction sites,
reaching approximately 30,000 workers in key markets including Mumbai, Delhi
NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh.
Commenting on the launch,
Pirojsha Godrej, Executive Chairperson,
Godrej Properties, said, “India’s
growth is being shaped every day by millions who build our cities and
infrastructure. Caring for the well-being of those who build the nation is not
just a business responsibility; it is a societal imperative. Through Godrej
SAHYOG, we are seeking to recognise the dignity of labour and ensure that mental
health support becomes an integral part of how we think about inclusive growth
and nation building.”
The programme is
being implemented in partnership with 1to1 Help, a leading provider of
professional mental health services with a strong presence across Indian
cities.
The programme
addresses the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of site workers,
many of whom migrate far from their families and traditional support systems.
Through 24/7 access to trained mental health professionals, the initiative
offers consistent, confidential, and stigma-free support. Interventions include
monthly on-site group sessions, personalised one-on-one counselling, and a
round-the-clock audio-visual helpline for counselling and crisis support.
Gaurav Pandey, Managing Director & CEO, Godrej Properties, added, “At
Godrej Properties, building homes also means taking responsibility for the
people who build them. Many of our site workers live far from their families
and familiar support systems. Godrej SAHYOG is an acknowledgement of their
lived reality and a commitment to creating construction sites that are not just
efficient, but also humane, supportive, and respectful.”
Highlighting the
impact of the pilot, Dr Divyang Doshi,
Chief Medical Officer, Godrej Industries Group, said, “Construction workers often operate outside
formal mental health support systems, which can intensify stress over time.
During the pilot, structured group sessions and confidential counselling helped
normalise conversations, build trust, and enable early intervention. Partnering
with 1to1 Help allows us to deliver professional, clinically informed support
directly at the workplace, where access matters most.”
External studies in
India have highlighted that a significant proportion of migrant construction
workers experience psychological distress linked to prolonged separation from
families and limited access to formal support systems, an issue often
under-addressed in traditionally safety-led site ecosystems.
Godrej SAHYOG marks
an important progression in the company’s approach to workplace wellbeing, moving
beyond a traditional focus on physical safety to a more holistic model that
integrates mental health awareness, emotional wellbeing, and access to
professional care.
