ICWO Distributes 20 Pairs of Sports Shoes and T shirts to Powerlifting Champions from MK Gym & Sports Academy Chennai
Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO) distributed 20 pairs of sports shoes and T-shirts to powerlifting champions from MK Gym and Sports Academy , as part of its ongoing efforts to support and encourage sportspersons from underprivileged backgrounds who excel at competitive levels.
This initiative was implemented by ICWO with support from CAUSE India (Changing Attitudes Using Social Energy) under its “ Right to Play ” initiative, with sponsorship from SG Sports* (Sanspareils Greenlands), aimed at promoting inclusive sports development and equal access to essential sporting resources.
The initiative was coordinated through Mr. M. Anandan , a national and Asian powerlifting champion, whose reference helped ICWO identify dedicated and deserving powerlifters actively participating in state, national, and international competitions. Through this collaboration, ICWO ensured that essential sports gear reached athletes who continue to pursue excellence despite limited access to formal sponsorship or institutional support.
Among the beneficiaries were Mr. M. Vijay (31 years), a distinguished powerlifter who has secured State Gold, National Gold, and Asia Games Gold medals, and Ms. Khajavali (24 years), an exceptional athlete with multiple prestigious achievements including Junior World Gold Medal, Commonwealth Gold Medal, All India University Gold Medal, Junior National Gold Medal, and South India Gold Medal in powerlifting.
The initiative aimed to address a critical gap faced by many athletes—access to proper sports equipment, which is fundamental for performance, safety, confidence, and sustained participation in competitive sports.
Sharing her experience, Ms. P. Sudha , who has been
involved in sports for over seven years, said, “This is the first time I have
received sports shoes. No one has supported us in this way before.”
Another beneficiary, Ms. D. Gopika, expressed her gratitude, stating that “such initiatives should reach many more sportspersons,” adding that she felt deeply overwhelmed by the encouragement and recognition.
Through this initiative, ICWO distributed the total of 125 sets of shoes and T shirts, 25 sets of sleeveless and hoodies with pant by reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusive sports development, equal opportunities, and dignity for athletes , particularly those who lack access to sponsorships despite their achievements and potential.
Individuals, organisations, and CSR partners who are
willing to support these powerlifting champions are kindly encouraged to reach
out to ICWO for further collaboration and engagement.
