From 98 lakh Biryanis to 53 lakh Idlis, Here’s how Chennai Swiggy’d their food in 2025
Chennai, the coastal powerhouse of South India, has always been synonymous with deep-rooted cultural heritage and its love for food. From the first sip of the aromatic Filter Coffee in the morning to the indulgent KothuParota to end the day, Chennai has a dynamic culinary expanse to enjoy and embrace.
In 2025, Chennai’s food cart was
dominated by local classics such as Veg Idlis and Medhu Vadas to national
favourites Chicken Biryani and Samosas.
Chennai chose what it trusted.

The City’s Favorites
● The city devoured 98 lakh Biryanis,
that’s more than 10% of the biryani orders in the country! Chicken Biryani was
the most ordered dish with 58.7 lakh orders.
● The OG favourite,Idlis were the
second most ordered dish in the city with over 53 lakh orders. Its orders
grew almost 40% as a snack-time (3-7pm) favourite as compared to the last year,
while it was the highest ordered breakfast item with 19.2 lakh orders!
● While Gulab Jamun (2.5 lakh orders)
was the most ordered dessert, the city feasted on Mango Rasmalai as the
second most loved dessert with over 2.1 lakh orders.
● After Veg Idlis, local classics ruled
the plate with Medhu Vada as the second most favourite breakfast dish (10.1
lakh orders) followed by Veg Dosa and Veg Pongal. Veg Vada and Veg
Idiyappam were also amongst the top breakfast dishes ordered.
● Snack time (3-7pm) was dominated by
Chicken Fry (5.7 lakh orders) and Chicken Burger (4.9 lakh orders). Veg Samosa also captured the heart of
Chennai foodies with 4.2 lakh orders.
● Chennai chose dinner as the city’s
most favourite time to feast, with dinner orders growing 24.5% in the past one
year .
● While the day started with light veg
classics, the late night binge (12am-2am) focused on a lineup of Chicken
dishes. On an average, over 17 Chicken Burgers were ordered every hour in
2025 making it the most loved late-night indulgence. Chicken Fry and
Chicken Fried Rice were amongst the other top favourites.
● To prepare for the festive season, a
customer in Chennai, trusted Swiggy to order a buffet of sweets worth Rs.
38,788, including 66 packets of Indigo Milk & Ghee Assorted Sweets
(500g) and other items such as Spl. Madras Mixture, Kaju Katli, Milk Halwa,
Boondi Ladoo and more!
● The city was also amongst top 5
cities in the country using group orders and incognito orders.
● Our affordable food proposition, 99
Store, received good response, and Chicken Burger, Chicken Nuggets and Chicken
Momos were the most ordered dishes.
● Work and lunch? No problem. On DeskEats,
local classic Idly was the most ordered dish by corporate professionals with
over 14.5 lakh plates ordered! Plain Dosai and Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani
ranked 2nd and 3rd. A customer ordered a huge feast of 75 Mutton Biryani
Smile Packs- highest in the city! Talk about an office party!
● Protein is the new MVP. High Protein
food continued to gain spotlight with 20.7 lakh orders this year alone!
Quick food delivery made possible with

● On Bolt, Chicken Biryani (7.5 lakh
orders) and Veg Idli (6.6 lakh orders) were the most ordered dishes. Veg
Dosa and Medhu Vada ranked 3rd and 4th.
● Mothi Laddu was the most ordered
dessert on Bolt, with over 38 orders per day in 2025. Chocolate Lava Cake ranked 2nd, while
the OG Mysore Pak ranked 3rd.
● Bolt of lightning! Ginger Chai was delivered to a customer
in 3 minutes
● The love for Biryani continued 24x7. Chicken
Biryani was the most ordered late night indulge with an average of 93 orders
between 12am and 2am! Chicken Burgers and Chicken Fried Rice followed next.
● Last minute party requirements? The
biggest Bolt order in the city was by a customer who ordered 7 buckets of
Mutton Biryani, enough for a party of 35!

Dining out
● Chennai saved a total of Rs. 39.70
crore through Swiggy Dineout, an increase of 35.3% from last year.
● A customer in Chennai saved Rs.
63,805 in a single booking through Swiggy Dineout!
● The party scene is alive in Chennai!
The city featured in top 10 for maximum transactions between 12am and 3am.
● Premium Dining seems to be a
city-favourite! Chennai featured in top 5 cities across India with 82,000+
premium dining bookings, an increase of 55% in the past year.
● Big Outings, Bigger Savings. Chennai
saved Rs. 17.35 crores during Great India Restaurant Festival (GIRF) 2025.
● Pampering their amazing mother, a
customer spent Rs. 66,078 for their Mother’s Day special outing. Father’s Day
was celebrated with equal affection, as a customer spent Rs. 42,171 for their
outing.

With a decade-long record of being the favourite,
Biryani continued to reign supreme! With 93 million biryanis ordered in
2025, (that's 194 orders per minute or 3.25 biryanis every second), Biryani
is the undisputed King, proving that while trends may come and go, India's
deep-rooted love for this aromatic masterpiece remains constant. Chicken
Biryani (57.7 million orders) was the most loved in the Biryani universe
with the highest number of repeat orders.

Burgers were the second most loved with 44.2
million orders, followed by Pizzas with 40.1 million orders. Another
favourite dish was Veg Dosa with 26.2 million orders proving that this
crispy, golden classic is much loved by foodies.

Snack time (3- 7 pm) is a mood and we all live in
it. Burgers were the most ordered amongst snacks with Chicken Burgers
leading the pack (6.3 million orders), and Veg Burgers as close second
with 4.2 million orders. Other loved snacks were Chicken Roll (4.1 million
orders), Veg Pizza (3.6 million orders) and Chicken Nuggets (2.9 million
orders).

The Chai-Samosa ritual continued with 3.42
million Samosas and 2.9 million Adrak Chai ordered during snack time (3pm-7pm)
in 2025.

Dessert delights and indulgence: While White
Chocolate Cake topped the charts with 6.9 million orders, 2025 was also the year
of love for desi favourites. Chocolate Cake (5.4 million orders) and Gulab
Jamun (4.5 million orders) featured in the top 3 desserts ordered. Kaju Barfi
(2 million orders), and Besan Ladoo (1.9 million orders) ranked 2nd and 3rd in
Indian sweets.

Chocolate was the flavour of the year in ice
creams with 3.3 million Dark Chocolate ice creams and 2.6 million
Chocolate Sundaes ordered.
●
Global cuisines entered the carts with Mexican
(16 million orders), Tibetan (12 million+ orders), Korean (4.7 million orders)
cuisines becoming consumer favourites. Matcha was the most searched global
cuisine in 2025.
●
Hyperlocal is the new authentic, with love for local cuisines. Pahari
cuisine marked a 9x growth, while orders in Malabari, Rajathani, Malvani and
other regional cuisines also grew almost 2x in the past one year.
● Without a doubt, Dinner
is the ultimate Bahubali of mealtimes, with dinner orders nearly 32% higher
than lunch orders

Big Heart, Bigger Celebrations: A single
consumer in Hyderabad spent Rs 47,106 and ordered 65 boxes of Dry
Fruit Cookies Gift Pack in August to kickstart the festive period!

A foodie in Mumbai redefined “dining all day”and
placed 3,196 food orders on Swiggy in 2025. That's almost 9 food orders/day-
this was the highest in the country!

For those cravings and hunger pangs, quick food

Bengaluru, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai. Also, Ahmedabad,
