Goodnight Survey Exposes Alarming Truth About Mosquito-Borne Health Threats
86% of people in Southern India believe that sleep disturbances, especially in children, are directly affecting their family's health and well-being. This finding comes from a survey report released by Goodknight, a leading household insecticide brand from Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL), ahead of World Malaria Day on April 25. The survey, titled ‘One Mosquito, Countless Threats,’ was conducted by YouGov and explores public attitudes towards the risks of mosquito-borne diseases. This concern is consistent across regions, with 87% of respondents in the North, East, and West sharing similar worries.
The study shows
that sleep deprivation is a major issue in Indian households. Adults are losing
up to 2 hours of sleep each night, while children are missing nearly 4 hours of
their needed rest. This ongoing lack of sleep is negatively impacting health by
weakening immunity, increasing stress levels, and making people more prone to
infections, particularly mosquito-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.
Mosquitoes are a
primary cause of sleep disruption in Southern India, with about 53% of adults
across age groups identifying them as a major reason for restless nights. In
children, the problem is even worse, as parents report that mosquito bites and
buzzing are leading causes of disrupted sleep, more so than illness or academic
stress.
Ashwin Moorthy, Chief Marketing Officer at GCPL, stated that the 'ONE MOSQUITO, COUNTLESS THREATS' survey aims to raise awareness about the mosquito threat in India. He noted that over 40 million people are affected by mosquito-borne diseases like malaria and dengue each year. These illnesses lead to absenteeism from work and school, increased healthcare costs, and decreased productivity, affecting the overall economy. To ensure a healthy workforce is maintained, addressing the rising trend of mosquito-borne diseases is crucial.
Medical experts
warn that poor sleep has serious effects, including weakened immune systems and
increased vulnerability to infections. Dr. Kirti Sabnis, an Infectious Disease
Specialist, emphasized the danger of mosquitoes as they can spread life-threatening
diseases and harm personal and community health.
Goodknight remains
committed to protecting families from these diseases with innovative solutions.
They have developed 'Renofluthrin,' India’s first patented molecule for
effective mosquito control, used in their new Goodknight Flash liquid
vaporizer, which is 2X more effective than any other registered formulas
available in India.
