"Gear Up for Safety”: Helmet Distribution Drive for School Students

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, Kotak Mahindra Prime collaborated with Gramium Trust, Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF), Greater Chennai Corporation, and Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), to conduct a Road Safety Awareness Program and distribute free helmets for students at Chennai High School on January 7, 2025. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about road safety and promote the use of helmets among students and their families.

Key speakers at the event included Dr. P. Narayanan from Gramium Trust, Dr. Chitra from the Indian Head Injury Foundation, and Inspector Mr. S. Sudalai Mani from the Pulianthope Traffic Division. They discussed the importance of safety education and encouraged students to be change-makers. Mr. A. J. Hariharan from the Indian Community Welfare Organisation emphasized that helmets can be a fashionable and life-saving habit. A total of 1,000 ISI-marked helmets were distributed to students in grades 5 to 8, highlighting helmets as essential safety tools. Students were urged to adopt road safety practices and share this knowledge with their families.

Dr. Narayanan noted that making helmets available and raising awareness could create lifelong habits for road safety. With India facing over 1. 7 lakh road fatalities in 2023, particularly in Tamil Nadu, the promotion of helmet use is crucial since they can significantly reduce head injuries and fatalities.

The event attracted 600 students and 300 parents along with participation from volunteers from various colleges. Special appreciation was given to the headmistresses for their contributions to the event’s success. This initiative showcases the power of collaboration to foster road safety in communities.
