6 Innovative Eco-Friendly Technologies from CZC 4.0

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), in partnership with Thales, has announced the six leading teams creating eco-friendly technology as part of the fourth cohort of the Carbon Zero Challenge (CZC 4. 0). This competition aims to inspire innovation in environmental solutions and is supported by Thales’s corporate social responsibility efforts in India. The top six teams will each receive seed funding of up to 10 lakh, while one other team received a special mention for its achievements. The goal of the CZC challenge is to promote innovative solutions to combat climate change and enhance sustainability.

This year's CZC reached over 1,600 students and researchers from 600 universities and 270 start-ups nationwide. Thales has supported the program for the second consecutive year, demonstrating its commitment to a safer, greener, and more inclusive future. The final teams were selected from an initial group of 25 announced in April 2024, undergoing a six-month process to develop sustainable prototypes in various fields, including energy, materials, agriculture, air, and water. Mentorship for business development was provided by Sustainability Mafia, a community dedicated to climate entrepreneurs in India. The teams showcased their innovations at the CZC 4. 0 Grand Expo held from October 26-28, 2024. CZC promotes deep technology and circular economy solutions to address urgent environmental challenges. To date, the program has supported around 100 prototypes.

Mr. Ashish Saraf, VP and Country Director for India at Thales, expressed pride in supporting the initiative, which encourages eco-innovation and aligns with their vision of sustainable solutions for the future. He congratulated all participants and highlighted the importance of their work in developing resource-efficient technologies.

Prof. Indumathi Nambi from IIT Madras stated that CZC 4. 0 attracted over 2,000 participants from 775 universities and 430 startups. Previous cohorts have produced 30 startups, with another 35 heading towards commercialization. Teams received up to 500K in funding and mentoring for their projects.

The top six teams recognized for their contributions include Gudlyf Mobility Pvt Ltd, EESAN, Electropulse Innovations, Thaal Chemy Innovations Pvt Ltd, ReWinT, and Chrissron Biomass Solutions. Team YoTuh Energy received a special mention for their innovative electrified refrigeration technology.
