Tanker Foundation’s fundraiser for preventing kidney disease amongst Chennai city police personnel


TANKER (Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable organization started in June 1993 with the aim of helping under-privileged patients with kidney disease by giving free and subsidized dialysis and one-time financial help for medication, investigation and transplantation and also spread awareness about kidney disease.

Dr. K. Jayanth Murali IPS, Director General of Police, graciously consented to the request of the TANKER Foundation to run a full Marathon held on Sunday, 12th June 2022 at IIT Madras to enable the Foundation to raise funds for BP Machines for all Tamilnadu Police Stations so that Police Personnel can check their BP regularly and take corrective action to avoid kidney disease.

DGP Dr.Jayanth Murali ran 50 kms and said that when he was approached by TANKER Foundation, he felt the need to do this for his fellow Police personnel as they were under a lot of stress and prone to high BP. He appreciated TANKER for doing this project and said that it would greatly benefit them. Earlier he had raised funds for dialysis machines for TANKER Foundation. The Dean Of IIT, Madras, Mr.Koshy was also present and said that he deeply appreciated ADGP Jayanth Murali's gesture and also wanted TANKER to conduct awareness and screening camps for IIT staff and students. Dr.Georgi Abraham, Founder Trustee TANKER Foundation said that each Police personnel could record their BP on a daily basis at the station every day and if the BP was consistently high, then corrective measures could be taken after seeing a doctor. Mrs.Latha Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee of TANKER expressed her gratitude to all Police personnel and said that they were also, along with all frontline workers ,Angels on Earth and that this project would help them keep their BP in check. She said that TANKER has done over 4.9  Lakh dialysis through their 12 units and at present do 6900 dialysis every month helping over 700 patients. TANKER has also conducted awareness programmes for over 1.9 Lakh people and screened over 35000 people for early detection of kidney disease. Mrs.Vasanthi Ravi,Head Admin TANKER Foundation and Mrs.Vidya, a regular donor also spoke at the function.
