EXPANSION OF THE TIRUPPUR NORTH ROTARY CLUB, TIRUPPUR CORPORATION & TANKER DIALYSIS UNIT

TANKER (Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable organisation founded by Dr. Georgi Abraham and likeminded people in June 1993 with the aim of helping under-privileged people with kidney disease by giving subsidised and free dialysis and one time financial help for medication, investigation and transplantation and to spread awareness about kidney disease.

The Tiruppur unit was opened with 10 dialysis machines in August 2020 and supported by the Tiruppur North Rotary Club, Tiruppur Corporation and other valuable donors. The unit was expanded from 10 to 20 dialysis machines as there is a growing number of patients needing dialysis. The inauguration of the unit expansion was held on 27th June, 2022 at 4 pm at the Tiruppur unit.

The unit was inaugurated by Rtn. MD.K. Shanmugasundaram, District Governor, Rotary district 3203, Mr. K. Selvaraj, MLA, Tirupur South, Mr. N. Dhineshkumar, Mayor, Tirupur Corporation,Mr. M K M R Balasubramanian, Deputy Mayor, Tirupur Corporation, Mr. Kranthi Kumar Padi, Commissioner, Tirupur Corporation and in the presence of Mrs. Latha  A Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee, TANKER Foundation.


Mr.Selvaraj MLA Tirupur South greatly appreciated the efforts of the Tirupur North Rotary Club and the TANKER Foundation for the scaling up from 10 to 20 machines in such a short time and said that the Government would help in any way required. Mr. Kranthi Kumar Padi, Commissioner, Tirupur Corporation said that the Corporation was very happy to associate with Tirupur North Rotary Club and TANKER Foundation and that they were ready to associate in other health and education projects as well. Mrs.Latha Kumaraswami, Managing Trustee TANKER Foundation gave an update of TANKER activities and said that TANKER had done over 4.9Lakhs dialysis so far and given one time help of Rs.3.6 Crores for medication, investigation and surgery costs for 3900 patients. She also said that the Tirupur unit had done over 7500 dialysis so far and also thanked the Rotary, the Corporation and the Media for their encouragement and unstinting support and also all the staff who were TANKER's Angel's on Earth doing dedicated and committed service.
