“Kanmani” – Safe &Low Cost Sanitary Pads

Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Avadi celebrated Women’s Day on 8th March 2022. Ms.R.Saraswathi, Commissioner, Avadi Municipality chaired the programme as the Chief Guest. Nazareth College join hands with Idhu Nama Avadi Trust– a social enterprise to create livelihood for the women hailing from neighboring localities. The chief guest launched “Kanmani” – low cost safe sanitary napkin pads manufactured by the IdhuNamma Avadi Trust which employs local women as a project to empower the neighborhood women. The production unit is housed inside the campus of Nazareth College, Kovilpathagai, Avadi and it employs about 8 neighborhood women. The College has taken up a task to bring awareness on mensural hygiene to all the girl students in Avadi. The Pad is made to the Standard Quality as per IS 5405 (1980). The chief guest extolled the novel initiative introduced by the college and invited to set up a counter at the office of the Avadi Municipal Corporation. The Commissioner also remarked that more affirmative measures that tend to protect the welfare of the women should be introduced by educational institutions and reach the public at large. A slew of events were conducted by women cell of the college. Many members of public took part in the celebration. Gratis Sanitary pads were provided to the female students and the women residing in neighboring areas.
