She said “Women’s health starts from adolescence when a girl is between 16 & 18 years old when factors like obesity and vaccination have to be taken care of. She also provided guidance on parameters to check and monitor before planning for pregnancy, like blood sugar levels, blood pressure and fitness levels. She urged couples to take pre-conceptional counselling and checkups before planning for pregnancy. During pregnancy, weight, thyroid levels, sugar levels have to be monitored so that the mother does not develop complications later in life. For example, 80% of women can become diabetic, if they develop diabetes during pregnancy. Hence good antenatal care and peripartum care is essential. Mental health is also an important factor to be taken care of throughout pregnancy for a healthy baby and safe delivery. Apollo also offers fertility care for couples who face difficulties in conceiving and that they should seek the help of a Fertility Specialist at the right time. In the next peri-menopausal stage, women should take regular mammogram, papsmear test etc to screen for cancers of the breast, cervix and dexa scan to check their bone density along with other clinical examinations. This would help detect diseases early and helps in effective treatment. So, by eating healthy, nutritious food, exercising regularly for at least 30 mins every day, women can take care of themselves and stay healthy.
