Special Resolution seeking restoration of Anglo-Indian Nominations

The Anglo-Indian Suburban Front under the Presidentship of Dr.Augustine Roy Rozario held its 18th Annual Get-Together on Sat 26th December 2020 at ICSA -Jivana Jyoti Hall, Egmore, Chennai with the participation of about 100 members.

Michael Fernandez and Eddie Barnett entertained the gathering with good music. Petula Pinheiro, Andrea and Loretta sang Christmas carols. Santa Clause cheered the gathering be dancing away and distributing gifts and cakes to one and all. Nigel D'Rozario conducted a fun filled games of 'tombola and cash prizes were given to the winners.

The highlights of the Meeting included an address by its Founder-President-Dr.Augustine Roy Rozario who highlighted the various problems faced by the micro-scopic Community especially the delay by the Central Government in restoring the Special Reservation for Nomination of Anglo-Indian Members to Parliament and State Assemblies which stands shelved time being under Article 334(b) since 26th January'2020 ,due to an erroneous enumeration by the Enumerators  in the 2011 Census during the previous Congress/ UPA Government compiling a fraction of 296 Anglo-Indian Members as a separate sect under Data on  Religion and enumerating the remaining  of the Community under the Christian Religion as done hitherto.

The Front in a Special Resolution adopted during the Meeting appealed to the BJP led Central Government headed by Prime Minister Shri.Narendra Modi  to restore and extend the Anglo-Indian Nominations to Parliament and State Assemblies under Article 334(b) by  ignoring  this disputed Anglo-Indian population figure of 296  created during the tenure of the previous Congress Government in the 2011 Census ,as the enumeration of all Anglo-Indians including the disputed figure of 296 Anglo-Indians ought to have been compiled under the Head of Christian Religion, as the term Anglo-Indian as per Article 366(2) of the Indian Constitution denotes the Community and not Religion and reckon the actual population as around 4 Lakhs spread across 16 States who have been enumerated under the Christian Religion. A few economically challenged members were given financial help and the meeting also witnessed Santa Claus presenting gifts to the Members."

The term Anglo-Indian refers to the Community as explained under Article 366(2) of the Indian Constitution and not to any separate Religion or Sect and the 2011 Census Results should have been compiled based on Religion and Not Community. The two Religious Sects of the Christian Religion can be referred to only as Roman Catholics and Protestants and the term Anglo-Indian refers to our Community and not Religion.

As the Anglo-Indians are all Christians by Religion, it clearly proves that the majority of the FOUR LAKHS Anglo-Indians were enumerated under the Christian Religion as followed hitherto and the  enumeration of a fraction of  296 Anglo-Indians under a Separate Religion/Sect was  totally erroneous and accounting this disputed figure as the total population of Anglo-Indians and shelving Nominations of Anglo-Indians to Parliament and State Assemblies under Article 334(b) ,based on this erroneous and disputed figure of 296 goes against the principles of natural justice and denial of  Constitutional rights guaranteed by the Founding Fathers.

The Front Founder-President-Dr.Augustine Roy Rozario speaking to Chennai Plus stated that he has full faith that the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri.Narendra Modi  and the BJP High Command will take up steps to intervene and set right this 2011 Census and thereby take steps to restore the Special Reservation for Nomination of Anglo-Indian Members to Parliament and State Assemblies under Article 334(b), as this is the only Constitutional guarantee left for the Microscopic Anglo-Indian Community to safeguard its interests, after it lost its job Reservation in Central Services in 1960.  For more details Founder-President-Dr.Augustine Roy Rozario can be contact 9444163862
